Shannen Widjaja

Shannen Widjaja's work 'Journey to Prambanan' is a retelling of a Javanese local folktale on the creation of one of Indonesia’s most iconic heritage sites, Prambanan Temple. Inspired by Indonesian traditional shadow puppetry, Wayang, Shannen's animation embraces Indonesian culture through its audiovisual components. Through this project, Shannen aims to introduce and possibly improve the experience in encountering Indonesian art by combining modern approach and delivery with traditional aesthetics and influence. Focusing on inclusivity, this work excludes dialogues and verbal narration in order to eliminate possible language barriers in communicating the story.
