'Shopping for Beauty' is a photography series that comments and intervenes with the way social media platforms portray the definition of beauty. It utilises the methodology of participatory design to showcase how vastly different and similar our beauty definitions are. The project was created by working with participants to digitally manipulate a single portrait to fit into each individual’s beauty ideals. This project promotes social change while questioning social media platforms such as Instagram by intervening in people’s social media feeds. The engagement in the creation of the project offers new ways of viewing beauty and disrupts existing paradigms.
