A&D ANNUAL 2022
Megan Srisurapon
Megan Srisurapon explores cultural dialogue through humour and game play guided by the notion that mockery, parody and mimicry are forms of resistance. The art of mockery in this body of work aims to confront western grand narratives and their colonial by-products, as well as subverting dominant normative ideologies to reveal hidden subscripts. This mixed-media work is informed by cross-cultural experiences, presenting a card game and animation that bring exaggerated socio-cultural mythologies in Australian contexts into play. Viewers are invited to participate in the game, reflect upon their own identity and reorient any notions of popular cultural narratives.
