A&D ANNUAL 2022
Lachlan O’Hare
Due to Sydney’s increasingly expensive housing market, many live in high changeover rental accommodation and discard furniture whenever they move. This generates a sizable amount of furniture waste. 'Furniture for Urban Nomads' proposes poetic modular furniture designed for repeated assembly and disassembly, thus creating a sustainable and portable furniture system that minimises waste. Focused on flux and transition, the furniture designs are based on forms appropriated from moving bridge mechanical operations. The facilitation of movement represented in the bridge designs puts nomadic theory into practice.
