Many eating disorder sufferers seek support for overcoming the stigma of illness brought about by society’s distorted beauty standards. Acknowledging disordered eating is the first step towards treatment and recovery and the minimisation of relapses. Translating research on the merit of self-compassion for the reduction of shame, 'Felt Experience Wearables' proposes a series of compassion textiles for self-hugs. The objects provide different types of hugs, and can be worn on the torso, shoulder, or hand during uncomfortable emotions. As a physical manifestation of self-compassion, sufferers can sit with uncertainty, distress and self-critical feelings during the transition to recovery.
