‘SwapShop’ was a 6-month project employing hands-on research, prototyping, and multiple streams of design development. This project is a web and mobile marketplace that seeks to reduce fast-fashion through the mass swapping of clothing items such as shoes, shirts, and pants. It is well known that people throw many kilograms of clothing out each year, whilst simultaneously buying new items to appease their desire to shop. Hence, ‘SwapShop’ allows people to both rid themselves of old or unwanted apparel whilst receiving items they crave as a swap through an online platform – slowing down the consumption of new clothing and reducing the negative impacts of the fast-fashion industry. The project has uncovered the concerns of users through interviews and online research, enabling the design of the best possible website and mobile app for a seamless user experience. Features such as the swap function allow users to easily create a listing, and to effortlessly swap items of clothing through a few clicks of button – prompting the user to come back again.
