A&D ANNUAL 2022
Bronte Contador-Kelsall
Bronte Contador-Kelsall is an interdisciplinary designer living and working on the unceded land of the Gadigal and Bidjigal people of the Eora Nation (Sydney). ‘Make-A-Mess Hall’ is a new gastronomic experience that seeks to disrupt current food and textile systems. The pop-up dining event brings together local farmers, food retailers, chefs and cooks, textile designers, artisans, and community members to inspire new ways of thinking and living. Perceptions of waste are challenged through the creation of seasonal menus based off discarded and surplus produce, and through the repurposing of food scraps into natural dyes that are used to ‘reimagine’ stained garments throughout the evening. This design proposition engages with complex issues in experimental and joyful ways and is accessible to both the expert and the novice, and everyone in between.
