A&D ANNUAL 2022
Amy Chen
Amy Chen’s research project concentrates on social-environment-induced mental health problems, especially among younger generations. Since 2020, many people experience mental health problems because of the COVID-19 pandemic, which can lead to domestic problems from long-term lockdowns. This research project aims to provide a visual domestic and social environment in order to evoke awareness of mental health and personal boundaries by using two design outcomes: an application and a jewellery detector. The application includes social, shareable functions, allowing users to link with others effectively, as well as setting personalities which allow others to understand how to approach communication and boundaries. The jewellery detector connects with the design of the application as a decoration in everyday life. It functions as a subtle marker of the mental health condition, and also aims to bring happiness to its users. These two design outcomes work in a complementary manner, guiding users to improve their mental health and to build their personal boundaries, improve their psychological health, and rebuild a more comfortable connection with others.
