A&D ANNUAL 2022
Natasha Rodriguez-Hunter
Responding to the real-world issue of mass textile consumption and disposal, the footwear designed through this project is an inventive alternative to footwear made from conventional materials. The outcome is built on the premise that although functional, cheaply made garments have no intrinsic value. Redesigning fast fashion garments into footwear increases the product value, whilst helping reduce what would otherwise be textile waste. The design of ‘Bespoke Footwear’ is shaped by material availability. Design durability is not fully resolved, but this footwear encourages others to discuss possible solutions, and therefore improve the functionality of the textile outcome.
