Othy
This work provides a glimpse into Othy’s ongoing practice, revealing experiments and outcomes from applying an ecological thinking contextual to contemporary practice, to ground the repairing, recycling, and composting of waste accumulated particularly in the ‘opshop’. Using the site of the opshop as a system that can accumulate material wealth without dependence on extraction, Othy uses the opshop as a place of research. Using composting as a metaphor for actions that archive waste so that they can become another object, Othy inhabits this space gently asking us to care for what we inherit. Embracing the full spectrum of human activities of production, Othy looks to make the generational effort away from extraction, building a culture of repair and circular ways of creating objects.
