A&D ANNUAL 2022
Tia Madden
Speculating realities where a grasp on language evades the self, Tia Madden’s practice ruminates on the relationship between line, language, and legibility. Familial history with Alzheimer’s disease guides her practice to consider memory loss not as losing knowledge, but losing knowledge name. This curiosity of how language informs the conception and communication of thoughts has led to emerging drawing methodologies grounded in automatism and deconstruction, employing string drawing installations and ballpoint pen drawings to question these relationships. By classifying the unknown with equal tenacity to language, Tia attempt to reassess the definition of memory loss and destabilise a world disguised by language.
