A&D ANNUAL 2021

Shirui Xiao

Shirui Xiao is a visual communication and multi-media designer as well as a craftsman. Her practice emboides the idea that 'Object + Experience = Messages'. In her most recent work ‘The Stimulant: Sensory Publication’, Shirui explores a new identity and form for traditional publications based on paper material in the 21st century. Using ceramics and paper pulp as materials to make paper pulp vinyl publications, Shirui forms a publication that can be touched, played with, and smelled. Using these methods, she creates more delicate and sensitive sensory experiences for users. As a highly sensitive person herself, Shirui aims to repsond to the well-being of highly sensitive people through the context of her work, creating social awareness and promoting the idea that "high sensitivity is a gift".
