A&D ANNUAL 2021

Lilli Taranto

Lilli Taranto is an emerging object designer-maker whose practice highlights the value of using natural and reused materials. ‘Rephrase’ is a sustainable lighting design for interiors. The design utilises plastic stretch wrap and pallet wood which are regularly discarded at fresh produce markets. These materials would have been sent to landfill with no sustainable alternative but have instead been collected and repurposed. The durable nature of the plastic means that it can be stretched and woven to create lightweight and versatile forms. When illuminated, the translucent glow of the woven plastic imbues the material with a sense of quality and beauty. The designed reuse of discarded materials aims to highlight their value and potential to be abstracted from their original environment and adopt a new life and aesthetic.
