A&D ANNUAL 2021

Chloe McFadden

‘Generated tools’ is an exploration of how neural networks can act as a mechanism for making art that explores our socially coded understandings of objects. Working with a generative adversarial network, Chloe has generated a series of tools which take form as images, latent spacewalk videos, 3D printed objects and doctored product catalogues. She explores how these AI artefacts can be used to create dis-identifying experiences, where our previous understandings which were once seen as obvious, innate, or normal are disrupted, made strange or become open to questioning.
