A&D ANNUAL 2021

Jodie ‘Joey’ Sim

Jodie ‘Joey’ Sim is a Warrang (Sydney) based multidisciplinary artist engaged in locating the diasporic experiences of familiarity and a sense of home. Her artistic practice considers the ways conversations can be facilitated in-between the tensions of an identity that wander between the skirts of multiple cultural boundaries. To do this, Joey documents the experiences and acts of cultural survival in the diaspora and focuses on the idea of the voyage and searching in the liminal space between cultures. By reflecting on the home as a place of the voyage, diasporic translation practices and love as a tool for decolonisation, Joey hopes to create open spaces of comfort and homeliness with living in the metaphorical third space through multiple modes of art-making.
