A&D ANNUAL 2020
Wenji Zhang
Wenji Zhang’s design project responds to the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goal 3 ‘Good Health & Wellbeing’, by addressing issues of sleep deprivation in 21–38-year-old office workers. Workplace anxiety and excessive screen-use can inhibit the ability to sleep; therefore, Wenji has designed a daily ‘cleansing’ ritual to perform each day before going to bed. The project aims to improve the bedroom environment, helping users purify the day's work pressures, improve sleep hygiene, and solve the problem of insomnia for a better sleep. The design proposition embraces awareness of sustainable design, extending the trend towards sustainable development of product design to create practical products that meet needs. Through ethical consideration, the design combines safety and sustainability to solve the sub-health problems of insomnia existing in current society.
