Ria Lim

Ria Lim is a visual artist specialising in oil painting. Her paintings recompose the silhouettes of figures from moments captured in her original photographs. Complemented by written text, she composes the figures through visual storytelling on the canvas scene. By studying the contrast of intensive colour variations, the prime focus of her research is to amplify the effects of light and darkness. Recently, Ria has been experimenting with the effects of a new technique she has developed called ‘text-layering’, which features the configuration of figures within the scene. Her personal story is intertwined within her text, written as a mix of both Korean (Hangul) and English (alphabet) languages.
