Hailan Chen

Hailan Chen's research explores representations of gender and sexuality in the field of animation. Her work addresses the pervasive nature of the gender binary and heteronormativity in animation, and resists static, binary portrayals of gender and sexual identities. Hailan's practice alternatively explores the diversity, complexity and fluidity of identity, and experiments with different ways of presenting gender and sexuality in a more inclusive and contemporary framework.
