A&D ANNUAL 2020

Fatima Farrukh

Fatima Farrukh’s practice explores hybrid identity through her own experiences growing up as a Pakistani immigrant in Australia. She uses an expanded drawing practice, working with digital and manual drawing processes as well as printmaking. Her exploration of hybridity is asserted through her melding of cultural aesthetics, language, and artistic styles, as well as the appropriation and recontextualisation of iconic objects and subjects from both cultures. Her works aim to create a visualisation of her hybrid cultural experience, while becoming a way for Fatima to understand her identity as a form of empowerment.
