A&D ANNUAL 2020
Cara David
Cara David's practice explores the intimate relationship between craft, feminism and the self. She prioritises self-care through methods of crochet as an escape from anxieties about a world in chaos. Using materials such as yarn, crochet hooks and patterns left to her by her late grandmother, Cara has an intensely emotional practice, honouring the valuable skills taught to her by other women and overcoming mental health issues. Crafting solely in her bedroom during quarantine, Cara reflects on the domestic origins of crochet, but challenges the devaluation of craft as a 'women's hobby', subverting it into a valid artistic practice.
